Reflection #10

Finished!

Towards the end at The Elder Wand, tears had started to fill the brim of eyes. She wiped it away before it could roll down onto her cheeks, as tears were the clear sign of defeat, and carried on till the very end.

After placing the book down on the table, memories flashed vividly...

There wasn't any politics at that time. We just belonged, as a class, and there's no sense of high, or low. Hardly anyone talked behind another's back, and any displeasure was just said right up to the face. There's no hatred between most of us; there's no one we'll give the "enemy" label to, and the mere ones are just acquaintances. Even though most of the time we did argue, but nevertheless we would always patch those things up, and become closer friends compared to before. However apart we are, when one was in need, we would try our best to help.

We whispered gleefully during chinese lessons, passed notes under the tables, sat where we wanted, and were constantly chased out of class for incomplete work. We jumped as one at Mo Lao Shi's crazy outbursts, scrambling to hide Archie comics, books, scribbled notes- everything not related to chinese; fearing she might tear it up in her insane moods. We nodded solemnly at her lectures, turned and smirked at one another after she'd left.

A few months before we parted, we - Clare, Hui Lin, Yuan Ting, Shu Wei and I- were all crazy about harry potter. Nothing else to worry about, we took all the time we had, drawing lots of little characters in Harry Potter, rereading the 5th book, playing with our GameBoys, playing with our uno and poker cards, board games, hang man. We also passed our autograph books around, and I remembered, my autograph book had a three dimensional Harry Potter logos on it.

There was once when we talked about ShuWei and YuanTing swooned at the thought of Daniel Radcliffe in the bath and of him kissing Cho. And now, even the fifth movie's came out, and the final installment's already on our hands.

IJ Retreat. I remember there's this bunch of people to help us along, like counselors, to prepare us for the next part of our lives. There's this guy who shared with us his story, and towards the end, most of my classmates teared, even the strong ones, except me. I was trying hard to suppress my laughter, but inevitably, I couldn't. We were also told to write short letters/ notes to our friends, and one said that you would received how many you write out. Of course, being me, I didn't wrote a single note, disbelieving that with that I wouldn't receive a single one. Well, at the end, I did receive- in fact, I received more notes more that the people who were around me.

For the Graduation Ceremony, we spent hours sitting under the tables in the hall, half of the class waving tiny paper puppets up above the table-top, the other half mimicking voices of tiny characters. We didn't put in lots of effort though, as half of us were all playing around, discussing about, of course, Harry Potter. Suffice to say, our play was canceled, because the puppets that were made of gray socks were too small. The story we planned was about a witch, a soldier, large bags of money, with dogs guarding over them.

The ceremony itself we formed a circle by the borders of the wall of the hall, and we held candles, swayed with the music, passed the flame around. I was beside Hui Lin, and we were relighting each other's candle, for the air from the air-conditioner kept blowing it out, while singing Pass It On.

And we never talked to one another, after we graduated...

Harry Potter has been going alongside with the memories she have. But life's going to be over anyway before anyone of us know it, so there's no need for us to relive a whole pile of memories anyway.

The sweetest ones are often good enough.
